A Successful Surgicl Treatment of an Infantile Hemangioendothlioma of the Liver

Abstract
|
|
|
The second case of infantile hemangioendothelioma of the liver in Korea is reported in order to record an additional case treated successfully by right hepatic lobectomy in a 36-day-old Korean infant. The clinical manlfestations began to appear in the first week of life with gradual abdominal enlargement, frequent vomiting and anemia. Ascites or jaundice was not present, and hemangioma of the skin or congenital heart disease was not associated with this case. The size of tumor measured about 10×8×6 cm., and diagnosis was confirmed as an infantile hemangioendothelioma of the liver by microscopic examinations. Normal growth and development was observed with no evidence of tumor recurrence in a follow-up visit about 4 months after the surgery.
A review of literatures is also made on the subject, and the patient is believed to be the 4th and youngest infant to be successfully treated by surgical resection of the lesion.
